More than just an art class.

The goal of this class is to increase each student's ability to create realistic, three-dimensional drawings. Students learn the elements of fine art - line, shape, color, form, space, value, and texture. They build a strong foundation in art making and learn a new perspective to view the world around them. Children learn shading, light, shadow, proportionality, and perspective. Projects include still life, portraits, figure drawing, and landscape. We work primarily in pencil, charcoal, thin line markers, pen, sharpies, and ink. We sometimes add color using artist markers, colored pencils, watercolors, and pastels. Students discover compositional strategies and ways of analyzing their artistic choices so that they may become more aware of their own creative process and develop the skills necessary to produce thoughtful, personal artwork. Prior formal training is not required. Students will be pushed to excel at their own rate. Each student will receive individual attention and instruction. Snack is offered during class.
