|In this class, children create colorful two-dimensional and fun three-dimensional, multi-layered projects that teach the elements of fine art. Children create art using tempura paint, pencils, pastels, cray pas, watercolors, collage, clay, paper, cardboard, wood, fabric, and other media. Art concepts explored include line variations, intro to still life, balance, diagramming face parts, mixing “values” of a color, patterns, positive and negative space, book-making, sculpture, printmaking, and spatial relations. The focus of the class is self expression and building self esteem through art. Projects take 2-4 weeks to complete and may include mini museums, collaborative murals, graffiti lettering, food art, paper collage, and found object sculptures. New projects are introduced each year and no project is repeated for at least 2-3 years. Each class includes a snack and story related to the lesson or activity.
