Group Classes at Greenburgh Parks & Recreation


Classes are held during the academic year in 6-week sessions.
Next session is in the Fall 2021

Young at Art is running in-person group classes through the Greenburgh Parks & Recreation Department. All classes are held in a spacious, well-ventilated room at Greenburgh Parks & Recreation, 11 Olympic Lane, Ardsley, NY 10502 (where the Greenburgh pool is). Classes are being kept small, so that students can maintain a 6-foot+ distance from each other. Classes are expected to sell out quickly, so register early. Registration must be done through the Greenburgh Parks & Recreation website.

  • Grades 3-5 - Thursdays, 5:00-6:00
  • Grades 1-2 - Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30
  • Grades 1-4 Drawing - Tuesdays, 5:00-6:00
  • Grade K & 4-5-year-olds - Thursdays, 3:30-4:30
  • 2-5-year-olds, Parent-child class - Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00

COVID-19 Precautions being followed:

  • All staff and students must wear masks at all times.
  • Staff and students will practice hand washing/hand sanitizing upon arrival, between activities, and before leaving.
  • Students will have work stations that are at least 6 feet apart.
  • Bathroom breaks will be one child at a time.
  • Class is limited to 10 children max.
  • Temperatures will be taken upon arrival.

Instructor: Ashley Veselis

Class description: A caregiver is required to participate in this class. We focus on learning shapes and colors. We experimenting with paint, glue, paper, and crayon. We learn about texture and do sensory play. We great fun works of art that kids enjoy and can admire or play with for years to come. Projects include puppets, mobiles, making vehicles, and splatter painting.

Grades K and 4-5-year-olds

Instructor: Ashley Veselis

Class description: This class combines a variety of art forms including painting, color-mixing, sculpting, collage, gluing, cutting, sewing, weaving, drawing, and building. Children enhance fine motor skills and learn to collaborate. They explore the world from an artist’s point of view and express their innate creativity. Projects may include making puppets, putting together a shape collage, tracing shadows, creating patterns, making an aquarium or snow globe, and designing flying creatures.

Grades 1-2

Instructor: Ashley Veselis

Class description: In this class, children work with paint, watercolors, cray pas, chalk pastels, pencil, paper, clay, cardboard, fabric, patterns, and more. Projects may include book-making, portraits, dollhouses or castles, landscapes, still lives, printing, miniatures, the use of negative space, working with light and dark, and mixed media collages. Our focus is on self-expression and learning new art techniques. We also learn about famous and contemporary artists.

Grades 1-4 - Drawing

Class description: In this class, students learn the elements of fine art - line, shape, color, form, space, value, and texture. They build a foundation in drawing and gain a new way to view the world around them. They learn how to draw what they see and not just from their imagination, although both concepts are valued. The class is taught using pencil, pastels, colored pencil, art markers, and watercolor.

Grades 3-5

Class description: Children in this class learn contemporary artist styles. They are exposed to new media and techniques, such as acrylics, alcohol ink, fabric art, layering, one-point perspective, the use of light and dark, and mixing hue. Children work with paper, canvas, metal, wood, fabric, plaster, clay, and found objects. They are encouraged to find their own muse and develop their style.
